Abu Dhabi’s $1bn Warner Bros theme park to open in July 2018

The attraction will be the UAE’s second indoor theme park

A new Warner Bros (WB) indoor theme park on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island is set to open to the public in July, developer Miral has announced.

Spread across 1.65 million square feet, Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi will feature a total of 29 rides, attractions and live entertainment options.

These will be split over six lands: Metropolis, Gotham City, Cartoon Junction, Bedrock, Dynamite Gulch, and Warner Bros Plaza.

Details of the Batman-themed Gotham City area have already been revealed, including four rides and attractions.

Cartoon Junction will feature classic WB characters like Bugs Bunny, Scooby-Doo and Tom and Jerry.

Bedrock hosts The Flintstones, Dynamite Gulch includes Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner and Metropolis will include Superman themed attractions.

Tickets are now available priced from Dhs295 ($80) for adults and Dhs230 ($63) for children.

An annual pass costs Dhs695 ($189).

The park is due to open on July 25.

The opening comes amid uncertain times for the country’s two most recent theme park additions in Dubai.

Dubai Parks and Resorts and IMG Worlds of Adventure have both been linked with loan restructuring deals in recent months after lower than expected footfalls last year.

“The theme park is a long-term play, we have a sustainable business plan,” Mohamed Khalifa al Mubarak, chairman of Miral told reporters on Wednesday, according to Reuters.

Details about the Gotham City zone at the theme park have been revealed

The world’s first Warner Bros – branded indoor theme park is on track to open its doors in Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island this summer, its developer has announced.

Spread across 1.65 million square feet, Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi will feature a total of 29 rides, attractions and live entertainment across six lands, including Metropolis, Gotham City, Cartoon Junction, Bedrock, Dynamite Gulch, and Warner Bros. Plaza.

Ahead of opening, the company has now revealed details about one of its zones – Gotham City.

The area will feature four rides and attractions, themed restaurants and memorabilia shops — all inspired by the characters and stories from DC’s comic books and movies.

One of the rides, Batman: Knight Flight, will allow guests to sit on a a robotically controlled flying Batwing vehicle featuring drops, climbs, spins, and rolls. The ride combines a high-tech flight simulator with immersive scenery and special effects.

Meanwhile the Scarecrow Scare Raid will provide a flight experience that will include “dramatic aerobatics and whirlwind barrel rolls”.

Other attractions in Gotham City include The Riddler Revolution — a rocking, spinning rollercoaster and The Joker’s Funhouse – which features a series of physical and mental challenges such as a hall of mirrors, a shrinking corridor, a labyrinth, a hallucination hallway and moving carpets.

The area will also host the Rogues Gallery Games featuring the Hi-Striker, the Whac-A-Bat, the Get-Away Car, the Toxic Blast and the Bazooka Blast.

In terms of food and beverage, Gotham City will include Finest, Hall Of Doom, and Mr. Freeze Ice Scream Truck.

Souvenir shops will also be present in the area.

Last month, Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi revealed details about the second DC-inspired land at the park, Metropolis, along with information about Cartoon Junction, an animation land.

The developers said information about the rides and attractions to be featured at Bedrock and Dynamite Gulch will be revealed soon.

Work is progressing on schedule at the Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi theme park in Yas Island, developer Miral announced on Tuesday.

The developer also revealed new details about the park’s zones and features.

Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi will feature six areas including: Metropolis and Gotham City, inspired by DC super heroes and super-villains; Cartoon Junction, Bedrock, and Dynamite Gulch, themed after animated brands such as Looney Tunes and Hanna-Barbera; and Warner Bros. Plaza, themed after old Hollywood.

Superman’s Metropolis will feature a modern-styled city of skyscrapers, while the zone will also include the dark alleys of Batman’s Gotham City.

Cartoon Junction will have Bugs Bunny, Scooby-Doo, and other characters under a cartoon sky while Dynamite Gulch will feature stars and canyons. Bedrock will be themed around a prehistoric world with birds and dinosaurs.

The Warner Bros. Plaza will have art deco architecture across the streets and Tinseltown details.

Spread across 1.65 million square feet, the park will include 29 rides, shows, and attractions in total.

“Miral is proud to confirm that one year after announcing its plans to bring Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi to Yas island, we’re making great progress with our partners where we’re 60 per cent complete and on track to launch in July 2018,” said Mohamed Abdullah Al Zaabi, CEO of Miral.

The project has engaged 5,500 specialist engineers, workers and craftsmen to build the park.
