Watch Anthony Joshua training on the helipad of the Burj Al Arab

“The heavyweight champion threw punches in the world’s highest boxing ring”

It’s been a great year for British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua – in April, he beat former champion Wladimir Klitschko, and in October defended his world titles against Carlos Takam. Then in November, he visited Dubai, helping the city to achieve its goal of becoming the most active in the world.

That meant taking part in a vigorous training session in the world’s highest boxing ring on the helipad of the Burj Al Arab – a setting previously used by other sporting greats, such as Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Roger Federer and Andre Agassi.

The recent Dubai Fitness Challenge 30X30 marked the city putting physical activity firmly on its national agenda, with 800,000 participants committing to 30 minutes of exercise for 30 days, with a packed calendar of sporting events, 1,500 free workout classes and 75 pop-up fitness locations.

Launched by the Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the initiative has encouraged Dubai residents to embrace a more active lifestyle and take advantage of the huge range of sporting facilities across the city.

And once the workout session was over? Joshua made the most of his time in Dubai – after working up a sweat, he found the perfect way to cool down with a trip to Wild Wadi.
