World’s Most Expensive Car, the Bugatti La Voiture Noire has been Sold!

The new Bugatti La Voiture Noire marks the brand’s 110th anniversary and the world’s most expensive super car at $19 million is also its most powerful

Descended from the iconic Type 57 SC Atlantic, the new Bugatti La Voiture Noire is easily the most expensive supercar in the world and it’s been sold. The La Voiture Noire so named for its sleek black aesthetics was a one-off bespoke super car produced exclusively for one very wealthy (and extremely lucky) unnamed “Bugatti enthusiast” for the price of US$18.9 million.

“The Atlantic is one of the icons of Bugatti’s rich history. At the time, this coupé was unique in its elegance, quality and performance, and it remains so today. A luxurious hyper sports car. For us, both an inspiration and obligation at the same time,” says Stephan Winkelmann, President of Bugatti

For those in the know, the son of founder Ettore Arco Isidoro Bugatti, an Italian-born French designer and manufacturer. The Type 57 then served as the foundational design language which made Bugatti cars distinctive with their unique curvaceous elements. The Bugatti La Voiture Noire was inspired by its legendary automotive pioneer and debuted to great aplomb at the Geneva International Motor Show.

Suffice it to say, when a “Bugatti enthusiast” commissions his own bespoke supercar, you can be rest assured that something like the US$18.9 million Bugatti La Voiture Noire will bear all the key characteristics of the specialist car atelier since it was founded 110 years ago.

Bugatti heralds the Era of “Automotive Haute Couture” with the La Voiture Noire

The world’s most expensive car is a homage to one of four only to be made Type 57 SC vehicles, with the fourth, all-black Atlantic, missing since the Second World War. Thus, the provenance of the new Bugatti La Voiture Noire, so named for its dark muse, is undeniable. Consider it a modern interpretation of the car industry’s most beloved and mysterious colourways.

The new Bugatti La Voiture Noire also marks the brand’s 110th anniversary, hence it was especially important that within its chassis beat the heart of one of the world’s most powerful engines – a 16 cylinder 8 litre engine with the output of 1479 horses,  a true mechanical marvel. The US$18.9 million six-tailpipe “hypercar” is emblematic of the pinnacle of Bugatti’s production prowess, bringing speed, technology, luxury and aesthetics of an icon into a new era.

According to non other than Volkswagen Group Chairman, Ferdinand Piech, Bugatti was acquired by German automaker Volkswagen in 1998.
